The host, Steve Meyers
Every year since 2010 Steven Meyers and his family host an event, called Pork Fest, where they invite their friends and family to cook a dish with pork and it becomes a competition. This year was the 5th annual since everyone has loved it so much, they keep coming back. They get to enjoy time with their friends, good food, and some friendly competition.

Chef Brian Ruthruff
One of the competitors, Brian Ruthruff, got an idea for mac and cheese after seeing a news article about a student on the east coast who got arrested for demanding mac and cheese be served at his school. He took the idea of mac and cheese and improved it by making it into a casserole with bacon, roasted jalapeños, and chili pepper. He put a lot of effort into making the dish in order to try and win back his crown from two years before. Once it was cooked it was transported to the Meyers household for the festival and judging.

The kids had a piñata!
When he arrived, the guests were already enjoying their food and thinking about which is their favorite. Everybody enjoyed the food and the kids got to play with a couple of babysitters while the adults talked and drank. Since it was a competition, there was a lot of trash-talk about whose dish was better. Some people took the competition very seriously and put a lot of time and effort into the cooking, but in the end the quality of the dish matters more than the effort. People enjoyed catching up with their friends and the kids got to run around and have fun.

Voting has begun!
Once everyone had time to try all the food Steve announced that it was time to vote. Every adult guest gets to vote for their top 3 choices in both the savory and sweet categories. The sweet category is not treated with the same competition and respect as the savory. This can be seen in the size of the trophies. The winner takes home the trophy, until the next year, when they bring it back to crown a new champ. Every winner, since year one, has signed the bottom to maintain their legacy. However, there are only three signatures. The first year Steve Meyers, the host, won, then the second and third years Brian Ruthruff won, and last year Melissa Thompson won. After the votes were tallied the winner was announced. This year’s winner was... Steve Meyers, with his Korean BBQ Tacos.
